Carolina has travelled to India many times; she loves the sights, the sounds, the colours, the smells and the smiles. On a trip to Jaipur with Will, her husband, they were exploring a bazaar near the Palace of Wind when they came across some stairs winding upwards behind the market vendors.

Will & Carolina like to ‘follow the breadcrumbs’ to see what opportunities or adventures they can find, so, they went up the stairs. They were quite steep and from them you could see a quiet courtyard, a big diffrence to the hustle and bustle of Jaipur’s streets.

The stairs led them to a small puppet shop. These puppets were beautifully painted, decorated in the vibrant colours often associated with India. It was a total surprise, they weren’t expecting to find a puppet shop up there!

The shop didn’t just have puppets; it sold beautiful hanging strings with handpainted elephant carvings; vibrant fluffy pompoms alongside fabric peacocks; more elephants, mirrors and colours than they could imagine. They met with the owner, Atul, a sharply intelligent & welcoming businessman, and a friendship was formed.

This year, 2024, Carolina went back to Jaipur but this time she was with her daughters – Amelia (me) & Harriette. It was a massive adventure and Carolina couldn’t wait to show them the secret puppet shop; they were equally as surprised to find it hiding behind the chaos of a Jaipur marketplace. She introduced me & Harriette to Atul and, after being treated to a coffee with a view, we went to explore a treasure trove of beautiful products and most importantly, meet the people who work for him. We spent the afternoon chatting with the lovely men & women who work for him.

With these ladies help, we hand selected some beautiful new pieces that we think you will love. They are lovingly handmade by artisans that often have a smile on their face, regardless of any difficulties. We are so happy to be able to bring these items to you, knowing that in doing so, we are able to help support not only the men & women in the above photo, but others like them as well.
